The cost of Fortnite's virtual currency, V-Bucks, is going up in several countries. The change, which takes effect in late October, is attributed to the increasing expenses of maintaining and evolving the popular game.
In a statement, the company behind Fortnite explained that the overall cost of operations has risen significantly. This includes investments in new gameplay, ongoing live events, and the constant development of the ever-expanding game world. The price adjustment is presented as a necessary step to support these continued efforts and keep the core Battle Royale experience free for all players.
The increase will affect V-Buck packs purchased on PC, Mac, and through the official mobile store. Specific new prices vary by region. Notably, the cost of the smallest pack, 1,000 V-Bucks, will remain unchanged in the United States. The company confirmed that console store pricing is determined by their respective platform holders and may not be immediately affected.
This marks the first time the price of V-Bucks has been increased since the game's launch. The move highlights the ongoing financial balancing act for free-to-play titles that rely on in-game purchases to fund extensive, long-term support and content updates for a massive player base.
