When I think back on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the first thing that comes to mind isn't the map size or the jetpack missions. It's the radio. I can still hear the crackle of K-DST as I cruised through the countryside in a stolen lowrider, or the thumping bass of Radio Los Santos during a tense gang shootout. That game's soundtrack wasn't just background noise. It was a time capsule, a mood setter, and a character all its own.
Now, with GTA 6 on the horizon, I find myself hoping Rockstar can bottle that same magic again. The 12-year-old in me needs the next soundtrack to go triple platinum inside my own head during those long in-game road trips. San Andreas worked because it mixed deep cuts with obvious hits, and every station had a distinct personality. You didn't just listen to music. you lived in that world.
The challenge for GTA 6 is that music consumption has changed completely since 2004. Streaming killed the radio star, and modern players have shorter attention spans. But that's exactly why Rockstar needs to double down on curation. A great soundtrack makes a game timeless. It gives you something to hum years after you've forgotten the plot. If GTA 6 can capture even half the soul of San Andreas's radio, those virtual highways will feel alive again.
