The latest State of Play presentation felt different. Not because there were more trailers or bigger announcements, but because the games actually looked like games again. For years, Sony's big showcases were filled with cinematic trailers, vague release windows, and a lot of talking. This time, they let the gameplay do the work.
There was no overproduced orchestra. No dramatic monologue about the future of gaming. Just a steady stream of titles that looked finished, or at least far enough along that you could see how they played. Ghost of Yotei showed a world that felt alive, not just pretty. A new entry in the Onimusha series appeared out of nowhere, and it looked like the kind of action game people have been asking for. Even the smaller titles, like the new game from the team behind Katamari Damacy, had a sense of purpose.
The difference was that Sony stopped trying to sell you a lifestyle and started selling you games. No one needs another announcement about a live service shooter that will shut down in two years. What people want is a reason to sit down on a Friday night and play something that respects their time. This State of Play delivered that. It was not about the logos. It was about the feeling that the people making these games actually enjoy making them. That is something the industry has been missing for a while.
