The sequel to the surprise hit ghost-hunting party game is here, and it brings more chaos, more maps, and a few new tricks. OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase and Seek leans hard into the childhood fantasy of playing tag in a haunted house. It is a simple concept, but the execution makes it work.

The core loop is unchanged. One player is the ghost, the others are kids trying to survive until dawn. The ghost can possess objects, teleport, and scare the kids to drain their courage. The kids have to find batteries, fix the fuse box, and hide in lockers or under beds. What makes this version better is the added verticality. New maps feature multi-story schools and abandoned malls, which means you are often looking up and down, not just side to side. This adds a layer of tension that was missing before.

The controls feel tighter on the Switch 2. The new Joy-Con sticks have a bit more resistance, which helps with precise movement when you are trying to creep around a corner. The game also uses the new haptic feedback well. You can feel the ghost's footsteps getting closer, which is genuinely unsettling.

However, the game is not without its flaws. The lobby system is clunky, and matchmaking can take a while if you do not have friends to play with. The bots are also either too easy or impossibly sharp, with no middle ground. The visual style is still charming, with a hand-drawn look that feels like a storybook, but the frame rate dips in the busiest moments, especially when four players are using flashlights at once.

Still, for a party game, it is hard to beat the pure joy of screaming at your friends as you get caught in a closet. It is not a deep experience, but it does not need to be. It is the digital version of playing in the dark until your mom calls you in for dinner. If you have a group of three or four people, this is a solid pick for a game night. If you are playing solo, you might find the magic fades quickly.
