Insomniac Games is known for pushing the limits of superhero video games, and its upcoming Wolverine project appears ready to outdo everything the studio has done so far. While the Spider-Man titles set a high bar for open-world action, early details suggest that Wolverine will go further in both scale and tone. The game is being built from the ground up for current consoles, which means the developers can take advantage of faster loading times and more detailed environments than what was possible during the PS4 era.
What makes this project stand out is the shift in combat design. Spider-Man relied on acrobatic combos and web-based crowd control, but Wolverine demands a more brutal and direct approach. Insomniac has hinted at a combat system that rewards aggression and close-quarters fighting, with a focus on claw-based attacks and a healing factor that changes how players take damage. That alone could make it feel like a very different game, even though it shares a universe with the web-slinger.
Another factor is the story. Wolverine's history is packed with dark themes, moral ambiguity, and complex relationships, especially with characters like Professor X and Sabretooth. Insomniac has proven it can handle emotional narratives, but Wolverine gives them a chance to explore a more grounded and violent side of the Marvel universe. The game is still a few years out, but the early buzz suggests it could be the studio's most ambitious work yet, possibly even bigger than the two Spider-Man games combined.
