There were over 20 trailers in the June 2 State of Play broadcast, but these are the ones I recommend you watch first. Sony packed the show with a mix of sequels, remakes, and brand new IPs, but a few stood out above the rest.
First up is the new trailer for Ghost of Yotei. The follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima looks stunning, shifting the setting to a snowy, mountainous region. The combat looks faster, and the new protagonist wields dual blades. It was easily the most polished trailer of the night.
Next is the reveal of a new God of War project. It is not God of War Ragnarok 2, but rather a spin-off set in a different mythology. The art style is cel-shaded, and the tone feels lighter. It was a surprise that caught everyone off guard.
The third pick is the gameplay trailer for a new sci-fi horror game called Directive 8020. It is from the Until Dawn studio, and it looks terrifying. The footage showed a stranded crew on an alien planet being hunted by a shapeshifting creature. The tension was thick.
Fourth is the remake of a classic JRPG, Lunar Remastered Collection. The trailer showed off the vibrant character sprites and the turn-based combat. For fans of the genre, this was a nostalgic highlight.
Fifth is a new action game called Tides of Annihilation. It mixes Arthurian legend with modern-day London. The trailer showed massive boss fights against giant knights and dragons. The scale was impressive.
Finally, the unmissable PS5 gameplay reveal was for a new open-world game called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The footage showed seamless space flight, landing on a hostile planet, and real-time combat switching between a ship and on-foot action. It was the longest gameplay segment of the show and looked incredibly smooth.
